Who We Are
Palette Inc. is a national not-for-profit that supports fast growing companies to find the talent they need by upskilling mid-career workers for successful careers in the digital economy. Our vision is of an inclusive innovation economy where workers and companies can find the skills and opportunities they need to thrive. We believe that Canada can be a leader in innovation-driven economic growth by harnessing the limitless capacity of its people to adapt to change.
What We Need
We began operations at the beginning of 2019 and our primary focus has been to launch our inaugural program, SalesCamp which upskills and transitions people from industries like retail to sales roles at some of GTA’s fast-growing tech companies. We’ve been managing the books on the side, but we are growing fast and as we expand we know it’s time to bring someone on full-time. We’re looking for a Financial Controller to join our team to manage all aspects of our finances including accounting, grant management, governmental financial reporting, and corporate financing functions.
In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the full spectrum of accounting, finance and compliance. This includes everything from managing the day-to-day accounting operations such as processing invoices, expenses and managing payroll to summarizing, synthesizing and presenting our current and projected financial position to the management team to managing government and external audits to building systems and processes to support our growth. This is a rare opportunity to work closely with a management team to help define the accounting and finance function for a well-funded start-up non-profit.
Who You Are
We’d love to hear from you if:
You are equally comfortable processing day-to-day transactions as you are providing management and external parties with high-level analyses of the organization’s financial performance as you are developing new structures and processes
You have the organizational skills to keep track of invoices and finances for multiple programs and grants
You’re proactive and ensure financial and management reporting data are accurate and shared on a timely basis to facilitate organizational decision making
You can continually monitor and update the monthly, quarterly and annual budgets and forecasts. You’re comfortable to voice your opinions and recommendations to the management team and to the Board of Directors
You can create structure and processes where there are none. In particular, you can establish scalable financial processes such as month-end close and entity-level controls for a small organization with ambitious growth plans
You develop relationships where the teams and stakeholders you work with feel confident, informed and efficiently supported. You’re unfazed when people, like government or external auditors, ask you detailed questions about your work
You are technology fluent and easily able to adapt to new software
You have a high degree of attention to detail while also being able to see the big picture
You’re adaptable and comfortable rolling up your sleeves to pitch in to get the job done - we’re a small team with ambitious goals and you will have to do things outside of this job description
You’re excited about having the opportunity to make an impact on the future of work and play a critical role in our growth
You have familiarity or can quickly learn about non-profit accounting and income tax. A CPA designation is preferred but not required
We know this sounds like a lot! And it is - we’re a small but very fast growing organization and we’re looking for team members who share our willingness to take on big challenges. But you won’t be expected to do this alone. At Palette, you will be a part of a team that is deeply committed to supporting each other, that focuses on excellence in execution, values learning through doing by trying new things, and is building an organization where everyone can win together, fail together and grow together. We wouldn’t be doing what we do if we didn’t believe first and foremost in the boundless potential of people. Come join us!
Palette embraces diversity and equal opportunity. We are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. The more inclusive we are, the better our work will be. If there is anything we can do to create a more comfortable interview experience for you, please let us know.
