Addressing E-Waste Challenges in Canada’s North: Computer Refurbishment Training

This upskilling program will address the need for e-waste disposal skills in Nunavut and address talent shortfalls related to IT/computer technicians in Nunavut. Participants will build valuable skills related to hardware and software components and upgrades, as well as data management and security, all of which are technical skills in demand in the North.

Working with Computers for Success Nunavut, our program will train participants to refurbish computers to a usable state for recycling back into the community. Trainees will learn how to recycle non-refurbishable computers by participating in our e-recycling initiative in Iqaluit.

Each cycle of our program will consist of a 10-week core course, followed by 4-week paid internships for selected participants, and then 2 weeks of job search support. With an emphasis on Palette’s 6 Principles, we aim to deliver two cycles of our industry-integrated and demand-driven training in Nunavut.
